Have you ever thought what makes you sick or what causes illnesses? We generally ignore this as we know the doctor can treat us till we are better. We know we can pop some medicines or get an injection so as to be able to return back to being normal and healthy.
Most families, in fact, even have a clinical thermometer ready for use as if falling sick is a norm rather than an exception. You should know what makes you ill when others around are always healthy and rarely fall sick. If you are informed on this subject, you’re less likely to fall ill for sure.
Here are reasons why we generally fall ill –
1# Hereditary factors
Property and wealth are not the only things inherited from parents and our family elders as diseases and health conditions pass on from generation to generation as well. Medical science has proven how commonly and frequently hereditary diseases are passed down. For example, family history is responsible for diseases like diabetes, Thalassemia, Neurofibromatosis, Cystic Fibrosis and breast cancer.
2# Congenital diseases
Babies who are born with defects are known as congenital diseases. Such defects can be caused by many reasons, including poor health of the mother and lack of prenatal care during pregnancy. Some of common problems with birth defects include heart-defects, spina bifida, cleft palate, clubfoot, congenital dislocated hip, autism, dwarfism, blue baby etc.
3# Psychological factors
Physical factors alone are not responsible for making us fall ill. We may also be pushed towards sickness due to psychological factors. After all, the mind has a huge role to play in our well-being and overall health. When the mind is not in a sound state, we’re bound to face physical health problems. Such factors can lead us to a variety of problems including depression, anxiety, hypertension, etc.
4# Age-related factors
Aging is the cause of many health conditions. When we age, our physical and mental faculties stop performing to the optimal level causing us to fall ill more frequently. It’s natural and we can’t do much about this factor, except, maintaining a proper diet and partaking regular exercise until it is possible. Some of major diseases caused or influenced by age include Type-2 diabetes, hypertension, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, cataracts etc.
5# Lifestyle factors
In some cases, we alone are responsible for inviting diseases. We maintain a lifestyle that makes us more prone to diseases and health disorders. These self-imposed factors are generally smoking, drinking, poor eating habits etc. Some of the common lifestyle-caused diseases include obesity, strokes, depression, cholesterol, some types of cancers, etc.
6# Seasonal influence
A change in the season may also make us ill. Climate does have an impact on our health and that’s why, most of us are affected by seasonal changes. Health issues caused by seasonal influence are mostly cured in a day or two. These health conditions include fever, cough, cold etc.
7# Traumatic illness
Traumatic illnesses or disorders are caused by trauma during accidents. These may cause the formation of physical scars as well as mental trauma. They may cause wounds, fractures, cuts and also psychological issues like anxiety, phobias, etc.
